Memphis knows Bar-B-Q!

I know it doesn't look like much, but that styrofoam box just might contain the best Bar-B-Q in the USA! On my way through Memphis I decided to take in some of the famous BBQ. What better place to try than the one Guy Fieri featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

At first glance, the building doesn't look like much. I walked in about 6:30 (they close at 7). There was a young couple in line already who had drove from Kansas City to test the rival. I was greeted with smiles all around and I was told I had to get the baby back ribs by the man behind the counter. I had ordered, got my food and payed in under 60 seconds!

I had talked about my journey to California with the couple from Kansas City and mentioned Guy Fieri's book. (How I found out about Tom's BBQ) The owner came out from the back and gave me another plate full of samplers from all of the other meat and a strawberry spongecake desert on the house. He signed my book, took a picture with me on his camera and wished me well on my trip! Absolutly, the best eating experience I've ever had! If you're ever near Memphis, drop on in.

What you crave.

I reached Nashville and was feeling kinda blah. I have been here before, but wanted to come back for the nightlife. Not much going on on a Monday afternoon in December. I was planning on finding a nice restaurant to dine, but then realized I could get some Memphis BBQ for dinner and the the white castle appeared!

Ever since Harold and Kumar visited White Castle, I've craved those golden onions with all beef mini patty on little white buns. The search has finally ended and I can now happily live out the rest of my life.

Life's Great at Super 8!

I just woke up from my first night on the road and realized two things... I'm officially jobless and homeless and Super 8 Motels charge a lot more than they use to. I wasn't able to make it as far as I had liked, but I was extremely exhausted last night. I'm about 35 miles north of Knoxville and a two and a half hour drive from there to Nashville.

I'm hoping to spend most of the afternoon in Nashville for lunch and some other sights. Then I'll get back on the road around dark. I'm not sure where my next stop will be after that. I know the direction I'm heading and the rest is in God's hands.
